Utah Valley University was founded in 1941 in Provo, Utah. The campus began as a small college, but grew to 34,000 students and expanded into a University in July 2008. From UVU’s beginnings, the campus lacked the presence of any vibrant Christian community on campus.Yet God had a plan for UVU. In 2012, God placed a desire in Justin & Samantha Tappan to change this reality, calling them to plant the first InterVarsity chapter at UVU. Since then, God has developed a vibrant, healthy and authentic community of Christians who seek to love and serve UVU!

Small Groups

A value of InterVarsity is to establish student led “witnessing communities” that seek to connect every corner of campus- whether it’s a dorm, the dance department, or their athletic team- to Christ. InterVarsity small groups are weekly, student-led Bible studies aimed at gathering communities of students to form deeper friendships and practically discover what it means to follow Jesus in college.

Talk to your campus staff about which small groups are happening on your campus. If you would like someone to contact you about them, click the button below and fill out our interest card form. We look forward to connecting with you.

Other Ways To Get Involved

Fall Conference

InterVarsity hosts a variety of regional and national conferences designed to helps students grow in their relationship with Christ. At conferences, students will connect with InterVarsity chapters across the state and country. They will be challenged to commit more deeply to Christ and learn how to share their faith with others back on campus.

Chapter Camp

Every Spring, InterVarsity chapters travel to Catalina Island for Chapter Camp. At this week-long retreat on the California coast, students will dig-in to the Gospel of Mark, growing deeper in their relationship with Christ and with their InterVarsity community.

Our mission is to encourage and equip graduate students and faculty to follow Christ as they seek to be a redeeming influence among the people, ideas, and structures of the university and professions.

Our primary strategy is to plant and grow witnessing communities of serious disciples within the vocational context of the campus. The staff of Graduate & Faculty Ministries serve on campus to guide these communities and to resource these students and faculty as they seek to follow Christ.

Our animating vision is to see graduate students and faculty spiritually transformed and developed into those who can effect change in the world, especially those positioned to bring renewal to their campus and the world of higher education.

Work Days

We would like to serve the greater community surrounding our campus. We are able to do this by providing “Work Days,’ in which, IV students will work for you to raise money to go to camps and conference.

Meet Our Staff

Justin & Samantha Tappan

We are both natives of Colorado, transplanted to Utah out of a love for God and the people of Utah. In 2011 We decided to apply for an internship with InterVarsity in Ogden, and then in 2012 decided to accept our calling to continue doing campus ministry work here in Central and Southern Utah.

We love to have a good time! Board games, volleyball, disc golf, or dancing to silly songs in the kitchen, they’re all great. We both love reading, Samantha loves Zumba and Pinterest, and Justin loves to lift weights, go fly fishing, and gardening. We both love the outdoors, and one day dream of backpacking the Incan Trail!
